New England Trip! (part 3)

Our last campsite was in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The reason our trip was planned for this time was because friends of ours invited us to hike up Mt Washington and Mt Lafayette with them. So when we realized that it would work we planned our New England trip around being in New Hampshire already. We got to New Hampshire a day before they would so we went on an extra hike.
We hiked the Pemi trail along the Pemigewassett River to this basin with the river flowing through the granite. We then did a loop so we got to see Lonesome Lake, though it's not pictured here.

The next day we hiked up Mt Washington!!!!!! It ended up being a little foggy, but it cleared up as we hiked down.

But the next day when we hiked up Mt Lafayette it was a gorgeous view.

That evening we left our campsite and stopped for a night at my mom's cousin's house before heading home on Sunday. We had a wonderful trip!

Bonus Pictures... :)
Here are some more pictures that my friend took on Mt Washington:

Stop
The area ahead has the worst weather in america.
Many have died there from exposure, even in the summer. Turn back now if the weather is bad.

My sister, my friend, and I got matching hiking boots (they were on sale, so why not? :))

New England Trip! (part 2)

Part 2 of our trip was in Maine! I fell in love with Maine at first sight. :) On the way to our second campsite we stopped at a lighthouse called Cape Neddick and ate lunch and put our feet in the water.
We only were in Maine for one full day but we got to hike in Acadia and see some cool things.

Typical Maine shoreline...no wonder they need so many lighthouses! Actually, a fun fact about the lighthouses is that they would be different colors and have different blinking patterns so that sailors would know which lighthouse they were seeing and could then know where they were.

So many shells and barnacles along the shore!

We drove up Cadillac Mountain because we didn't have time to hike up. We got up there just in time because after I got a couple decent pictures we watched the fog blow in and it was all white! This panorama is overlooking the Bar Harbor area. We did decide then to hike down the mountain so mom drove around to the parking lot to pick us up when we got down there, but the rest of us hiked down. I love this close up I got on the way down! You can't see this beauty unless you get up close, otherwise it looks kind of like a wilted pink dot.

We also hiked a trail called Ladder trail, but there were only three ladders and the rest were steep, uneven stone steps.

To finish off our time in Acadia we walked across the Bar Harbor sandbar at low tide to Bar Island. After we ate lunch and stopped in some shops for souvenir shopping we drove by and it was all covered up where we had walked!

It was sad to leave Maine so soon but we were off to our final campsite and one of the reasons this trip got planned in the first place.

New England Trip! (part 1)

From July 2-12 my family went on vacation to New England! I can divide it into three parts, so I decided to post about it in three posts because I have so many pictures. :) Also we stayed at three different campsites. Our first campsite was near Boston; therefore, the first section of our trip was in Boston....of course. The first main thing we did in Boston (after taking forever to find the subway station and make it into the city) was to walk the freedom trail. All you have to do is follow the red brick trail down the middle of the sidewalk and stop along it to see some of the main historical sites there.
One of the quieter streets in Boston

The grasshopper on top of Faneuil Hall, which was one of America's first public meeting venues.

The Paul Revere house was one of the more interesting stops along the freedom trail, but we couldn't take pictures inside the house.

Old North Church, where 2 lanterns were lit to show that the British were coming by sea, not by land.

beautiful hydrangeas by the street on the way to Bunker Hill.

Looking out from one of the windows of the Bunker Hill Monument, commemorating a battle that was actually mostly fought on one of the hill's near Bunker Hill. We climbed up a LONG spiral stairway that was kind of tiny, especially when people are coming down when you're going up--294 steps!

Whale watching was definitely a huge highlight of our trip. This is the boat we rode. We had a very successful time and saw a humpback whale with her baby!

As we were driving back we got a gorgeous view of the sunset and the Boston skyline.

Along with our two days spent in the city of Boston we spent part of a day in Plymouth which was a relaxing break from the many crowds in Boston.
We went on the Mayflower II, a reproduction of the original. It was even taking on a voyage from Plymouth, England to Plymouth, Boston!

A view looking out over Plimouth Plantation, a living history museum where you could talk to people acting like they were living there in that time period.

We had enough time to finish off our first leg of the trip with some time at the aquarium. We saw a lot, and I took a lot of pictures, but the penguins were cute so that's the picture I decided to post! :) (but we also saw sea lions, jellyfish, sea dragons, sea horses, fish, sea turtles, and more!)

On July 6th we left our campsite and headed on to the next campsite and part 2 of our journey! (And yes, we were at Boston on the Fourth of July, and no, we did not see fireworks :))
